Joseph Hargan

"Joe Hargan is the fourteenth President of the Paisley Art Institute in its 125 years and his work undoubtedly places him equal to the famous members of the past who include Sir Lamorna Birch, E.A. Hornel, James Kay and Sir John Lavery. This writer first found his work at Glasgow's famous Maclellan Galleries in 1981 in an image with a cat on a stair watching something invisible in the foreground. In the way brushwork and controlled colour displayed a combination of exceptional skill, rare imagination with gentle humor, and a solid heritage in Scottish Art...This art has a serious intellectual quality that distinguishes all of it from the merely decorative. It is inspired with a sensitive imagination and is expressed with supreme technical competence." Dr. George J. Addis M.D, F.R.C.P, H.P.A.I Vice President of the Paisley Art Institute
